This is some crazy stuff

http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/local/story/2017/apr/23/jail-refusals-set-end-after-parade-problems/424266/

Above is a new article that I saw, with a video, showing a person with an active warrant for their arrest and the county jail not accepting the person.

I feel like the lady was being a bit of a B**** about the whole thing. And that it could have been handled easier.

That's all, and i thought i'd share

Another Paris Attack

http://www.officer.com/news/12327789/officer-killed-two-others-wounded-in-paris-terror-attack?utm_source=Officer.com+Newsday+E-Newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=CPS170415002&rdx.ident%5Bpull%5D=omeda%7C2116I7646390J8Q

There has been another terror attack on the country of Paris. One officer was killed and another two were wounded. I think it is imperative that we remain vigilant and continue our fight against these terrorists that are killing our people and peace officers. I could go into a long drawn out political rant, but I will save you the agony of that. Have a read on this article.

Police Protections

https://www.policeone.com/legal/articles/325008006-Mass-governor-pushes-police-protection-law/

This article is talking about the need for more protection for police officers in the state of Massachusetts. Currently, hitting or making un wanted contact with a police officer is just misdemeanor battery. This Bill looks to change it so that if the officer suffers great bodily harm, like a broken bone or severe injuries due to the battery, it would become a felony charge.

Luckily enough for police officers in Illinois, There are already laws stating that any battery of a peace officer becomes aggravated battery, which becomes a felony charge.

I think the need for more policies in place to make people think twice about hurting the police would make the police less paranoid about everyone fighting them. It is good for both sides of the situation. The police feel more secure and safe knowing that the people they are dealing with are less likely to fight/hurt them, and the people dealing with the police are more at ease knowing that the police officer isn't constantly treating them as a threat.

Literally writing in the Disciplines (Note taking)

There are many important things you as an individual need to look at to be an effective note taker. For most people, right handed people, the pen quality, if the ink is fast drying or slower, how easily the ink smears doesn't really matter a whole lot.For left handed people, like me, it makes a huge difference. There are also a large number of criteria that a pen has to met for me to be just right.

For instance, I can not use gel pens without the ink smearing all over the page. I also need to have a ball point pen due to left handed people push along the paper where right handed people tend to pull/drag the pen along the paper. I also will not be winning any best penmanship awards any time so I have to have a pen that will not smear at all so that the small differences between my a's and o's or my e's and c's stand out. I also need it to be a click pen so that i can open the pen one handed if needed for easier access while i am taking out my note book at the same time. I also need the clip on the pen to be strong enough to stay in the pocket without falling out, while also being able to be easily taken out without pulling or snagging on my uniform. I also would prefer it to have a grip on it so that if i am writing with my handing being sweaty or wet, furthermore the pen can not have to much grip or so large of a grip that it gets caught on my uniform as it is being taken out of the pocket. I would prefer the pen to not cost so much that i will be having to take out a loan on my car in order to buy more pens because I will lose them. There is also a Crime scene tech joke that you can tell how old a tech is by how cheap his pens are, the cheaper, the older he is because they have realized that all of the gross stuff from the crime scene that is on your gloves is on your pen now too because you were just writing your report with the same gloves on. With that in mind, I would like to have a pen that i can buy in reasonable bulk and that will not cost an arm and a leg, that i will have no issues with throwing away or not getting back from someone at the end of the day.

Now I have tried every pen that you can find in the pen section of Walmart, CVS, Walgreen's, and other store that i would normally think of selling pens. The closest thing that i had found was a pen that had a very weak clip that would routinely break off and would also bleed through the page. I thought this is what I would have to deal with, I thought this was as good as it got. Then came the day this semester that i stumbled into the Target pen and pencil section, not thinking that it would be any different than the other big box stores. I was so wrong, the paper mate Ink joy gel 0.7 mm medium point pen came to my rescue. This pen has everything that I could have ever wanted. The thickness of the ink that comes out is a bit to bit for me, but during my research on amazon, I found that it comes in a fine point variation with a 0.5 mm fine point tip. I have already ordered on amazon prime a  box of 12.

https://www.amazon.com/Paper-Mate-InkJoy-Medium-Point/dp/B019QBOG4Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1490931297&sr=8-1&keywords=papermate%2Binkjoy%2Bgel%2Bpens%2Bblack&th=1

Yes, the pen is mightier than the sword, but the pen needs some paper to write on. I know there are countless different sizes of pages and bindings. Like I said before, my penmanship is probably making my grammar school teachers shaking their heads. Having my paper ruled is a must, I am far to sloppy to not have it ruled. I also like to have a many many replacements so that I am not worried about flipping to a new page, writing an address or phone number and giving it to someone without worrying about tearing other pages out, along with not thinking of how much that one sheet of paper cost. Like with most things, I buy them in bulk so that they are cheaper that way. I have found that again Target is where I have been able to find the best supplies for law enforcement. I have found for me that the 3x5 in. memo pads work the best for me and fit into my uniform picket the best. Again, taking a little bit of time, I have found that on amazon, I can buy them much cheaper and with more ease.

https://www.amazon.com/Mead-45354-Memo-3X5-Inch-sheets/dp/B002YM1IT4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1490932747&sr=8-1&keywords=3x5+memo+pads

I hope this will help some people on choosing their best note taking pen and paper for law enforcement writing.

Now for normal note taking that is not for law enforcement, I prefer the legal pad with normal ruled 8.5x11 ruled paper for a number of reasons. the biggest plus for someone that is a left handed writer is that I do not have to have a metal spiral dig into my arm half the time i am writing notes. The second reason for me is that they are much cheaper and easier to find on the weeks when school starts and everyone and their mother is buying up the ruled notebooks.

London Attack

The link bellow is to the BBC news article about the victims of the terrorist attack that happened this Wednesday.

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-39363933

As far as I am aware of, the attacker, who's name I will not share so he will never be remembered, drove a van/truck on the sidewalk of the bridge closest to the Parliament building. After driving across the bridge and eventually stopping, started attacking a police officer with a knife. The officer did die from his wounds. The attacker was, as far as I am aware of, was shot and taken into custody.

This entire attack is horrible and extremely scary. For me what is more scary is that there was no really feasible way for this attack to have been prevented without infringing upon the people's rights even more. The government can't ban cars or trucks. The economy would completely collapse. So just give the drivers a background check in order to get a drivers license, Right? Wrong, for a few reasons. These being that you not having a license doesn't instantly make a person unable to drive a car, further more, you can very easily make a fake ID with your own picture and everything. The only issue is when you were to give it to an officer, they would know it is a fake. However, that doesn't really matter when you are already planning on dying in your attack. You don't have to worry about having a fake ID when you're dead.

There are countless news sources covering this story right now. If you are interested in reading more, I would encourage you to look up the London terrorist attack on Google.

VICE video response

In the VICE news video we watched in class earlier this week, I feel gives a more negative feel to the police than what is understood. Talking about the police in other countries is not really relevant to police actions for the US police actions. The judicial systems, and political environment are completely different than that of the United States.

If you also look at the locations that the people are polled from, each individual person comes from a different location in the states. As most of us are well aware, the laws in each state can vary greatly. Even certain ordinances are different from town to town in a county, like Cook County. Each town has it's own level of crime and what the police are allowed to do and how to act is dictated by the department, which is run by the town management. I would make a pretty reasonable assumption that the people interviewed for this video were not talking about the federal police, like the FBI/DEA/ATF.

When the man from Mexico said that police should only be armed with tasers, I silently laughed to myself knowing that, that will never happen. Take a look at the UK which has an almost complete gun ban, except that of farmers who need to defend their livestock from wolves and what not. A large number of the police do not carry any firearms at all and are armed with tasers and batons, however the police still have groups that are armed with guns to deal with more dangerous threats that a simple taser or club can fix. If you were to look at the current state of the police in the who European Union, they are much more heavily armed. This is happening in countries where it is extremely difficult to even touch a gun. Most people do not realize how heavily armed police officers are on a day to day basis. I know from my experience with law enforcement through a wide variety of departments and friends and family. Every single one of the carries their standard pistol, along with having a rifle with multiple magazines for that rifle in their trunk. Some departments even will give the officers a shotgun, along with their rifle to carry in their squad car.

The question that is posed to me by the video is 'do i trust the police' and the simple answer is yes. That could expected mostly because I am planning and already taking steps to become the police, so it would be quite silly for me not to trust the police. I don't trust the police just because I want to be the police, I trust the police because I understand why they are doing what they are doing. If that same knowledge was given to the general public, the tension between police and people would go down. because knowing is half the battle.

20 golden principles

Policeone's article on their site about 20 golden principles in order to be a better cop

https://www.policeone.com/Officer-Safety/articles/319405006-20-golden-principles-for-prevailing-on-the-street/

I read through all of these and it is truly a great list of rules to go by. Even if you are NOT in law enforcement or some form of enforcement, these are all great ideals to work by.

There isn't much to talk about with this article, except me hoping that you go and read this article. I have also posted it on the twitter thing.

Navajo Nation Office Killed

Navajo Nation officer killed.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/03/12/navajo-nation-police-officer-shot-killed-responding-to-domestic-violence-call.html

New Mexico's Gov. statement of  "I'm confident the monster who took this brave officer from us will face the full measure of justice." Coming from someone that is looking at the government for support of LEOs (Law Enforcement Officers), I am very happy with the New Mexico Governor's stance on the hurting and attacking of the LEOs in her state or neighboring states, or LEO's in general

I believe that the heads of governing bodies have a massive role to play in supporting the local and other forms of law enforcement through out the country. The death of Officer Largo, 27, with 5 years on the force is a horrible tragedy. He was responding to a call for a domestic disturbance, which is one of the most dangerous and most common calls that law enforcement go on. Most people don't realize that domestic calls are extremely dangerous. The LEO is going into someone else's house who is already agitated. The suspects know the house much better than the officer ever will, along with the dispatcher, most of the times, doesn't have much information to transfer to the officer due.

What is the most tragic thing of this story is that sadly, Officer Largo will have his funeral, maybe flags hung at half mast in his home town or across the state. However, his number will be added to the much to long list of officers killed in action through out the years.

I hope that publishing this blog will help Officer Largo longer in more than just the heavy hearts of his loved ones and co-workers.

Private Prisons

Privatization of the Correctional field is one of the most talked about subjects in the criminal justice field. There have been studies to show that private prisons are both cheaper than state run prisons and that state run prisons are cheaper than private prisons. With no real definitive evidence for either of the sides, it can not easily decided with logic or reason. It must be solved and answered by opinion.

I think the privatization of the prison system is in the same ethical dilemma of having the military being more privatized too. Are, essentially, mercenaries ethical and acceptable for us to use instead of our own troops or correctional employees? I believe so, yes. As long as there are still Government agencies that are overseeing and making sure that these private entities are staying on track with what the government is paying them for. These government agencies do exist and supervise both private correctional and military companies.

I believe that using a private organization for corrections and military is a great idea. It gives the workers and the organizations the ability to move and evolve much faster than any government organization could ever imagine. If one company starts doing something that works better and is able to do the same work as the other companies, with less cost and thus cheaper for the State. The State simply has to wait until that contract is no longer active, or switch to a different contract with the new company. This change over time and process would be much faster than any government change over. If the State wanted to change something in it's processes, it would take years for that bill to pass through the legislature and get approval through out the different gov. organizations. All while this is going on, the old system is still being used and being inefficient.

Even if the cost per inmate is the same for private prisons v.s. state prisons, the money saved in just the transitional time between new systems and old systems would be enough to make a dent in the budget.

Thanks for listening

2/23

Hello to all handful of people that actually read this blog.

With yesterday being 2/23, I think it is a good time to talk about firearms. This will NOT be a rant on my views of firearms and the massive amount of politics surrounding them. It will however be a educational post on some of the misconceptions of the rifle and what it can and can not do. As all of my 6+ readers are intelligent, I am sure you can interpret my views without me explicitly saying them. Let the fun begin!!!

As some of you may know, .223 Caliber is the standard caliber for the 'super scary, PTSD inducing, pure evil' AR-15. Granted there are many other pistols and rifles that use this caliber, the AR is the most commonly known type of rifle to use it. AR has been said to stand for a wide variety of things, most commonly standing for Assault Rifle. Which it does not. The A in AR is simply an abbreviation for the company that invented the rifle, ArmaLite, with the R in AR standing for rifle. Pretty simple right?!?!

Going back to the caliber of the rifle. I want to give a little information on what Caliber actually means. There are two ways to measure the size of a bullet. Caliber and Millimeters. They measure the diameter of the round that is being fired, measuring the largest part of the bullet, also known as the part that touches the barrel. Millimeters is the same as it would be for normal measurements. Caliber is essentially the empirical version of that, with Inches being roughly equivalent in diameter. There are also a wide variety of different types of rounds that are the same size. There are Full Metal Jacket (FMJ for short) that has the lead bullet coated in a copper shell only leaving the rear of the bullet exposed. There are also Total Metal Jackets(TMJ) that are completely coated in copper. Next, there are Hollow Points, which have a open cavity in the noise of the bullet so that when it hits a target harder than paper (usually people) it slows down, and mushrooms out, thus making the hole much larger, while also reducing the risk of the round penetration through the target and potentially hitting another unintended target. Now come the more interesting and 'fun' bullets. There are a wide variety of different types of bullets that do a wide variety of things. There are armor piercing, armor penetrating, tracer rounds(which glow when you shot them because the tip of the bullet is on fire), Incendiary rounds, and a wide variety of other rounds. All of which have their special use, but are far to expensive for my budget. All of these 'specialty' rounds have a color coated tip that helps people know what round they are buying and shooting.

This leads me into how the rounds are held and put into an AR( or really, any modern firearm with revolvers being the exception). Magazine v.s. Clips. I can probably write a 5 page paper on the difference between the two. I wouldn't be having to pay for college out of pocket if I had a dollar i heard or read someone improperly call a clip a magazine or visa versa. Bellow I have put in a link to a video that will help illustrate the difference between the two. Either way, the thing that hold the bullets and is put into the AR is called a MAGAZINE.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoSNHe413rY

With that, I will leave you to ponder your own life choices and to go out and be helpful part of society.

The idea of Fake News

I want to preface this blog post with saying that I do not agree with all of my President's plans or ideas and that I did not vote for him in the Primary (Rubio) or in the Presidential election (Johnson).

Watching Trump's press conference, I know understand what he means by fake news. My impression of what he was talking about with fake news was when a news source, and they all do this as far as I am aware, will rush to put out a story, even if it is not complete or inaccurate. What Our President is talking about is this. Not about any news article in particular. He was simply expressing his lack of trust in the media and his own opinion of disliking how the media has became so reactionary and are worried about being first, and not getting the correct story and not the whole story.

On this, I agree with. I think that the Media has became a knee jerk reaction and is worried about speed and quantity instead of quality.

Our President (despite what some might want to say, he is the US's President) said he can handle bad press, as long as the story is true. Which I think is honorable of him to say. Essentially saying, 'yeah, if i really did something and you don't like it, then sure, write a story about it all you want. What I don't want is the Media doing is 1. jumping to conclusions on what is happening and 2. to create facts and information where there clearly isn't any.'

That, personally, sits with me how i think. I will confess to anything that is true about me. However, if you start to try and either put words in my mouth or say I did something where i clearly didn't or my potential motives behind one of my actions (when that someone didn't even bother ask me, which I would have told them my motive behind it). That is when I get upset.

The Good, Bad and Ugly......of Documentaries in class

The role of watching a Documentary in any class has the Good, Bad and Ugly parts to it.

The Good being that it gives the professor a chance to sit back and either catch up on work or take a nap. Along with giving the professor a break from the monotony of lecture, it also breaks up the monotony of the student's experience of going from lecture to lecture. It gives the student a new perspective on a issue that isn't from a book and just the view point of the author. Chances are, are that the Documentary will have multiple interviews with experts and primary source interviews with people.

The Bad being that, like any class full of students, they will always try and find the easiest way to do a project or least amount of work to put into a class so that they get a acceptable grade. With watching a video in class, what i have observed, is that the instant the lights go out and the movie starts, half of the students heads go down and fall asleep, the other half blankly stare at the screen hoping that this Documentary will possibly have something interesting in it. However, this is always the one student that will be furiously taking notes during the entire Documentary and listening intensely. I am always curious why this student will always do this, and yet, refuses to raise their hand or speak up to participate in class discussions.

The Ugly thing about watching a video in class is that there is only one real view point, and that is what the director wants us to see. With anything, there is always a bias. I have yet to watch a single documentary that will just lay out the raw numbers with no graphs or 'analysis' of these 'facts'. There has always been an expert that will say what the director wants us to hear and they will use big fancy science words to make their point even more important. There is no rebuttal to the documentaries view point and ideas.

That, my friends, is why I personally do not like Documentaries or other things of that case. I much rather view the raw data, see how it is taken (to see if there is a bias in how the data was gathered, which is always important to look out for) and to make my own rationally based perception on what is going on in this situation.

I leave you all with a quote from Winston Churchill to ponder when you look back into your history books and data sheets. Churchill said that "History is written by the victor". In the case of bias and skewing the results, always think of that.

Pandora's Promise review

Hello all to the beginning of my blog for class. Let the fun begin!

1. The scene that stood out to me most was when the film was comparing the energy output of Uranium v.s Oil. If someone is able to use all of the energy in 1 lb of Uranium, it would equal 5 000 barrels of Oil. I am assuming that the film means the 100 gallon barrel that oil is normally measured in. This means that using all of the the entire Lb of Uranium would save 500 000 gallons of crude oil. That is absolutely outstanding. However, there is a flaw in their argument. There is two ways that they could mean by all of the energy that can be extracted from 1 lb of Uranium. There is the total atomic energy, which you get from doing a whole bunch of science, that mostly revolves around E=MC2. That means that every single atom will be completely destroyed and turned into pure energy. Which is a mind blowing amount of energy. It would be some very tricky statistics play on the part of the film. I would hope that the film actually meant the amount of useful energy that can be harvested from a lb. of Uranium in a reactor.

2. The thing that I was most surprised in this film was when the activists actually switched their views and said that if they are against the nuclear energy companies, you are only helping the fossil fuel companies. I found this very interesting and I completely agree with it after I heard it.

3. After watching this whole film, the only question I truly have is, which is the same for all changes in policy and the norm, how do we implement all of these great changes and policies into the united states. There is obvious enemies made from the oil companies and Saudi Arabian government is will most likely not be happy with the loss of one of their biggest buyers of oil.

4. Like I said in number 3, the issue is how do we make the changes. It is all good and fun to sit around and talk about it and think of all of the good it will do for the world, however, someone actually has to pull the trigger and open the pocket book and put a shovel into the ground to make real changes.
Another issue and concept I was thinking about while watching this film is how do we get all of the anti nuclear power people onto the side of pro nuclear power? I don't know any way to change people's minds except to educate them.
One more issue brings us back to the same concept as answer number 3, which is where will we (the United States) get all of this money to completely overhaul the energy grid. We sure as all heck will not be getting a single dime from the oil/ coal companies.
Along with the policy issues that surround the issue is that of the security issues that are surrounded by the thought of nuclear energy for the entire world. Granted most 1st world countries don't want to end the world in a nuclear winter, I feel that there are plenty of governments or groups that they call themselves governments that would love to see the entire world a barren radioactive wasteland.

Thank you all,

Feel free to comment anything at all, I will not be offended if you do not agree with me. I look forward to the conversation and the in depth and intelligent conversations we will have.
